I have tried to follow the instructions given by SDL and members of this site for inserting the 'I work with Trados Studio 2011' badge on my profile page. If you check my profile, you will see that I have managed to insert something, but no image is appearing. What have I done wrong? I am stumped by this one!

You need to change the path to the badge. Here is what you have right now:
img src="SDLTradosStudio2011Badges.zip" alt="I'm using SDL Trados Studio 2011"
What you want is to change the path within the quotation marks after src= to the path of the image on a server that you control. You can also use an image hosting service like I did to display this SDL Trados Studio badge on my blog:
Create customer quotes and invoices from within Trados Studio
