Source text - English Equities. Sharia law allows investment in company shares (common stock) as long as those companies do not engage in lending, gambling or the production of alcohol, tobacco, weaponry or pornography. Investment in companies may be in shares or by direct investment (private equity). Islamic scholars have made some concessions on permissible companies, as most use debt either to address liquidity shortages (they borrow) or to invest excess cash (interest-bearing instruments). One set of filters excludes companies that hold interest-bearing debt, receive interest or other impure income or trade debts for more than their face values. A further distillation of the aforementioned screens would exclude companies whose debt/total asset ratio equals or exceeds 33%; companies with "impure plus non-operating interest income" revenue equal to or greater than 5% or companies whose accounts receivable/total assets equal or exceed 45% or more.
Translation - Arabic الأسهم: أجازت قوانين الشريعة الاستثمار في اسهم الشركات (الاسهم المشتركة) طالما ان هذه الشركات لا تشارك في عملية الاقراض ,القمار او انتاج الكحول, التبغ, الاسلحة, او التصوير الاباحي.الاستثمار في الشركات يتم عن طريق الاسهم او استثمار مباشر(أسهم خاصة). قدم علماء المسلمين بعض التسهيلات للشركات المسموح بها نظراً بأن معظمها يتجه للديون في حالات نقص السيولة(الاقتراض), او لاستثمار الفائض النقدي( الصكوك المدرة للفائدة). يتم استبعاد الشركات التي تحمل ديون مدرة للفوائد، او تحصل على فوائد او دخل غير صافي, او ديون تجارية للحصول على أكثر من قيمتها الظاهرة. بالاضافة الى الشروط الوارد ذكرها اعلاه, يتم استبعاد الشركات التي تكون نسبة الديون في رصيدها تساوي او تزيد عن الـ 33%, الشركات "التي تمتلك اعمال غير صافية بالاضافة الى انها غير مستغلة لإرادات الفوائد" و ايراداتها تساوي او تزيد عن 5%, او الشركات التي تكون حسابات القبض او اجمالي ممكتلكاتها يعادل او يتعدى ال45% او اكثر.

Source text - English “Growth in Jordan is expected to remain flat at 2.4 per cent in 2016 as a difficult regional situation continues to constrain economic activity. In the first half of the year, growth averaged just 2.2 per cent. Struggling sectors include tourism and manufacturing, which registered a contraction of 1 percent and growth of 0.8 per cent, respectively; whilst utilities, financial activities and logistics have remained resilient, supported by hig her demand.
Nevertheless, sluggish economic activity has weighed on unemployment, which reached 14.7 per cent in the second quarter of 2016. A modest pickup in growth to 2.8 per cent is expected in 2017, driven by domestic demand. Monetary policy and oil prices are expected to remain accommodative, and some recovery in investment is expected. Downside risks to the forecast include a deterioration in the regional security situation; a worsening outlook in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries with an adverse impact on exports, remittances and official grants; and shortfalls in donor funding. The swelling of the refugee population (over 13 per cent of the total population) further adds to fiscal strains and is estimated to have cost Jordan over US$ 2.5 billion a year (6 percent of GDP).
