French to English: Development of a solar aeroplane
Source text - French Que de chemin parcouru en quatre ans et demi ! Concevoir et fabriquer un avion solaire représente en effet un réel challenge. Un véritable saut dans l'inconnu. Pour pouvoir voler avec la faible quantité d'énergie captée par ses panneaux solaire, l'appareil doit en effet être ultra-léger: il pèsera environ 2 tonnes, contre 565 pour l'Airbus A380! Mais malgré sa minceur, il devra être fiable et sûr, puisqu'il aura un pilote à son bord.
Translation - English Amazing progress has been made over the last four and a half years. Designing and creating a solar aeroplane represents a genuine challenge – a real leap into the unknown. To be able to fly with the small amount of energy captured by the solar panels, the aircraft must be ultra-light: it will weigh around 2 tonnes, compared to 565 tonnes for an Airbus 380. It must however be reliable and safe because it will carry a pilot.
