| Description | Translation and Interpreting Degree The Degree in Translation and Interpreting provides students with the knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes necessary to transfer a text produced in one language into another language. In addition, this act of communication takes place within a specific social context and with a very specific purpose. The objective may be similar to that of the original text (for instance, when a recent film is translated), but it may also be different (like translating an old book). For this reason the translator should recognise all the elements that play a part in the translating process and all the characteristics of the text being translated, so that a suitable equivalent term can be found. The training received will enable students to specialise in two different but complementary fields: 1. Translation Translation involves working with written texts. Students will work on general, technical and scientific, literary, economic, legal, administrative and audiovisual (cinema and television) translations. 2. Interpreting The speciality focuses on oral texts. Students will work on sight translation, liaison interpreting (taking notes), and simultaneous interpreting (in a booth).
