Yesterday I received an e-mail from an organization posing to be PayPal asking me to confirm my account by connecting to a link which was mentioned in the e-mail.
The reason for this confirmation was said to be repeated unsuccessful attempts to enter my account.
The e-mail was addressed to an e-mail account which I usually do not use, and not in connection with PayPal, anyway.

This I found suspicious and checked with the real PayPal-organization by logging on to my account . They confirmed that no such message was sent.
It therefore seems obvious that this is an attempt to crack PayPal-accounts. The only place where this particular e-mail address of mine and my PayPal account can be connected to each other is on Proz.com.
I will therefore warn everybody to be careful when they receive such an e-mail. It looked rather trustworthy, cause the PayPal-logo was used and addressed to " Dear valued customer". ▲ Collapse

Unfortunately I also get the exact same message at least once a week... a pain. However, last month I called Paypal about it and they were extremely helpful!
All I have to do now is to resend all strange mails to [email protected]. That way they have all necessary info to track the sender and save me of all trouble.

Hi,
for your information, "true" emails from Paypal always begin by "dear your surname + name".
Emails that don't mention your name are suspicious.

I get e-mails from all sorts of strange banks... including one called Chase Manhattan Bank. I hadn't even heard its name when I received an e-mail for the first time.
Evidently, it's a very popular bank (if it exists, that is).
So how safe is your money in these banks?

I recently got two pretending to be from Ebay. Just do not click on links, but instead go directly to the website and login to check your status. Each company has spoof@companyname to forward this phishing email to.

I've received twice an e-mail message from a site pretenting to be the Italian postal service site (Poste Italiane) saying that my account details had to be checked, etc.
This was quite good, no lexicon or grammar mistakes.
They are getting more and more specialized.
Watch out!

Just received from fake Paypal

I get such messages from time to time with different funny body as a try from the thief to persuade me to click the link provided by him/her.
The golden rule to avoid this hassle is not to login to account outside the login page you trust via writing its address yourself. However, it is better to bookmark it as thieves buy domains similar to those ones that you mistype. You can call it "Phishing" and the same happens through SMS to your mobile phone "SMiShing".

I am not happy at all with PayPal service.
Perhaps this has to do with the country I live in.
They think it is their money and not mine.
They want me to confirm the account using a debit card or a credit card.
Thai debit cards do not work outside Thailand, unless you are Thai.
As an expat in Thailand you only get a credit card when you make a Baht 100.000 a month. (The President of my university does not make that a month)

To ask PayPal to help, providing another solution and trying to do this by phone results in you being sent around their phone system and not being helped.
Sending them e-mails is not very helpful either it takes them ages to react.
I got paid $ 1,002.-- into it in January and since then they have not found a way to help me lifting limits ( so I can pay, e.g. here to become a member) or enabling me to transfer some of the money into my bank account in Thailand.
PayPal is becoming more and more a non-option for me, meaning I will turn down any job when somebody wants to pay using PayPal. ▲ Collapse
