Report from  Claudia Brauer
Very good meeting with an interesting group of translators and interpreters working in South Florida. We discussed the challenges translators and interpreters face today and how we must update our skills set. We talked about CAT tools and the learning curve needed. We also talked a lot about the need to find new sources of work and how to find new ways of doing that. We also had the opportunity of hearing from highly qualified peers who actually are doing very well, having lots of well-paid work. From them we learned that two of the important recommendations for translators and interpreters are (1) develop highly specialized skills and (2) maintain a good network of peer contacts.

Attending representatives of ATIF (ATA chapter) invited (and further invite) all translators and interpreters in South Florida to the ongoing monthly informal meetings taking place in:
Coral Gables (http://atifonline.org/calendar/?entry=61&display=month)
and Wilton Manors (http://atifonline.org/calendar/?entry=84&display=month)

Summary: Good time with great people! Will try to schedule another similar meeting in Spring 2014.
