International Translator's Day - Let us meet to look forward to the future. What do we need to do to partake in the "next generation" of translation and interpreting assignments? How do we start to think as 21 century translators and interpreters? What are the new tools of our trade? How do we associate to be a RELEVANT force going forward? Let's just meet and talk. Maybe we can come up with some ideas. Or maybe we can just have a good time together. Any way it will be worth our time to get to know each other.
Is there a location in Aventura for this event? The Association of Translators and Interpreters of Florida is hosting an ATA exam that morning and a General Membership meeting afterwards but we can reschedule the meeting.

Welcome to the 21st Century - PowWow
Feb 25, 2013
The second decade of the 21st century is here and yet many interpreters and translators still have a 20th century mentality. I want to talk about the future, about how we are going to participate in the making of our future, how we are going to "work together" with the new forces of the industry (the software companies, the Language Service Providers, the Google-translate's of the world) to maintain our position as relevant in the 21st century. Please do not change the date on my account, as my trip to the states depends on many factors which I cannot influence, so not even October is a sure thing. Besides, I think a powwow on the official "translators' day" is a great idea.

Machine Translation 101
Jul 21, 2013
Translators & Interpreters talk a lot (good and bad) about Machine Translation. Few really know what it is. In preparation for our PowWow on September 28, you may read the full article at http://brauertraining.com/blog/machine-translation-101

Would prefer the 29th or October 5 if possible. The ATA exam proctor is more likely to be able to attend these dates also.

Although the ATA examination is scheduled for the same date as our PowWow, there is not enough consensus to change the date. Therefore:
1. We confirm Powwow city: Aventura, Florida (United States) Saturday, September 28, 11:30 am Location: Ginza Japanese Buffet in Aventura (http://goo.gl/fl1ilU) [Each person pays for self] Theme: Welcome to the 21 Century

2. For planning purposes and make a reservation for a table, I would like to know whether or not you plan on attending the powwow. ===================================================

1. Publicity - Need someone to create "buzz" this week in and outside the ProZ community about our pow wow (and include the link to join) so that others who have not heard about it have the possibility of joining us.
1. Pictures - Osmel, I see you have indicated interest in taking the pictures of this event (and later post them in Proz or we can even create our space to post). Please confirm if this is so (and if it is not, again, no problem, just let me know).
2. Report - Someone to write a post after the event summarizing why we met and what we discussed. As brief or as long as the reporter wishes to make it.
3. ProZ group - Someone who would open and manage a group in ProZ maybe called ProZ 21st Century Translators and Interpreters or something of the sort (creator and manager free to choose name) where we could in the future discuss issues about the 21st Century and use as an alternative for communication in between powwows.
4. Linkedin group? - Same as above, but in Linkedin
5. Facebook group? - Same as above, but in Facebook
6. Anything else you would like to do? Open to any other suggestions....
