Although lit. = مهاودة or الوصول إلى حل وسط, 'compromise' here indicates a somewhat unprofessional indifferent tendency towards rigorous rules.

You mean "the doctor performance presents a serious compromise to acceptable standards of patient care" = "أداء الطبيب يمثل تهمة الإهمال الجسيم لمعايير رعاية المرضى"?
It does not make much sense to me. I would dare to say it is wise to match the style of the source text, and regretfully, the translation from the kind professor does not.

Ahmed Dahman
: تقصير fits exactly the context and "compromise" in the medical Dic is "نقص".

مساومة / مداهنة
Sure not easy term to translate, but I prefer to go to مساومة , even مداهنة is good

it could be "تهمة الإهمال الجسيم" in case the source text read "serious negligence", standing alone (i.e. without the postpositioned modifier "to acceptable standards").

I am sorry because I do not know how to add a note separately to the asker ,I have to add it here with my answer.
If 'compromise' means تهمة الإهمال الجسيم as the doctor has already said so what does the common LEGAL term 'Dereliction of duty'of which certain doctors are accused mean ?!I am waiting fellow translators and linguists opinions.
