calculer en ligne

From a school report card, so no complete sentence, but it's this concept: http://primaths.fr/futurs maitres oral/competences C2/ce1cal...

I've googled "line calculation" and "calculate in a line" and got a lot of unrelated hits.

Left-to-right calculation

Of course, calculations like these aren't always strictly left to right, because they may include expressions in brackets, but generally speaking you start on the left and end on the right.

Calculation in columns, on the other hand, is generally done from right to left.
Example sentence:

...a left to right calculation method, which makes quick estimation and rounding off possible.

Peer comment(s):

agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : Or "linear calculation"(as opposed to matrix for example). PS : Even if they have expressions in brackets, questions or priority arise, but the calculation is still considered linear.
