Spanish term

industrialización

Non-PRO Spanish to English Bus/Financial IT (Information Technology) Specification document for bidders
Context is an IT security specification document that potential bidders are invited to respond to.

"El proceso de industrialización de los servicios planteados por los licitadores deberá ser debidamente documentado, demostrando la línea de industrialización planteada y teniendo en cuenta qué procesos y herramientas pueden ser requeridas"

I think this means something like "mass production", but not sure. Could others comment please?
Many thanks

Change log

Oct 30, 2014 14:25: James A. Walsh changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Graham Allen-Rawlings, philgoddard, James A. Walsh

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Wordup (X) (asker) Oct 30, 2014:
Thanks James A Walsh Your link is very helpful.
I've not heard of the term being used in the context of the IT industry so assumed it was a false friend.
I'll cancel the question since it seems to have got others exercised for being too basic (never mind that I'm trying to do a professional thorough job on a fairly complex IT tender document, and didn't want to simply use "industrialisation" when I thought it was wrong!)
Thanks again
James A. Walsh Oct 30, 2014:
Industrialisation This is a standard term in IT-speak these days. Here's a good article about it: http://tinyurl.com/lfw96zl
And of course there are many more examples out there.
Wordup (X) (asker) Oct 30, 2014:
More context/examples from text "Finalmente, se ha de tener en cuenta que la industrialización de una tarea determinada no consiste obligatoriamente en su mecanización o automatización; en el ámbito concreto de este pliego podemos encontrar tareas de consultoría o auditoría en las que la industrialización puede convertirse, a modo de ejemplo, en la creación de modelos, estándares o documentos de auto evaluación del cumplimiento normativo."
Wordup (X) (asker) Oct 30, 2014:
PS No points for "industrialisation" No points for "industrialisation" as I'm not convinced this is the best option. If I had been convinced of it, I wouldn't have posted the question ;-)

I see no good reason not to use the literal translation here:

Sometimes I think it's better not to think too much about exactly what something means...
