Me gusta "recursos". Otra posible opción, ya que creo que se suele utilizar más en sentido figurativo cuando va acompañada de la palabra "éxito"es "instrumentos". O sea:
"perfeccionar los instrumentos para lograr el éxito" o "perfeccionar los instrumentos del éxito".

COMENTARIO
Entiendo que los programas de grado ayudan a desarrollar el potencial del alumno, y que “successful tools” significa que los programas de grado son eficaces para desarrollar el potencial del alumno, no que sean en sí mismos “herramientas de éxito”.
