I am confused by 'categoria' in the following context. From a quick search I decided it might imply something along the lines of 'importance / status', rather than a more literal translation, but I'm not sure. Also, if that's the case, the whole sentence seems a little tautological, but I suppose that's not my issue.

pues sí, ser de categoría en ese caso no es estrictamente buen estilo, se trataba de dar una pincelada general, pensando en casos como escritura, libro, investigación, sinfonía... de categoría

Proz no me envío notificaciones de tus entradas, no sé por qué? No creo que la enseñanza sea de buen estilo. De importancia sí, de acuerdo :) Importancia se logra por la especialización a la que haya llegado un instituto/una universidad para poder enseñar, en mi opinión.

Pues sugiere clase pero no en el sentido de categoría profesional sino de buen estilo, buen hacer, profesionalidad si se dice de una persona, y, como ya se ha dicho, sugiere calidad, nivel, posición en una escala, cumplimiento de requisitos, logros adquiridos, méritos, buenas cualidades...
