Нить should remain as it is, if we change that for ex; into connection, it would not be understood in its widest and metaphorical sense.

Как в 'I am sure there must be some way out of this situation'.

: Definitely not 'string' and why caps? Otherwise, I don't see a reason not to keep it literal as the English term "invisible thread" does exist.

the hidden thread
The Hidden Thread is a breathtaking novel about the intricate craft of silk and the heartbreak of forbidden love. https://dearauthor.com/book-reviews/review-the-hidden-thread...
or even Phantom Thread, why not?

: And since you're introducing unwarranted literary references, why not The Painted Veil? Or even Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? There is some shared meaning, after all, so why feel constrained by accuracy (or, indeed, logic) at all?

telepathic connection
Something even more invisible than a thread, link, etc.
cccccc
Do you feel an inexplicable mental connection with someone even in their absence? Do you feel as if you can talk to them without uttering a single world?
When two people share a profound telepathic connection, they can reach out to each other even if colossal oceans separate them.
They can feel each other’s presence anywhere and at any time. The human brain is a masterpiece capable of accomplishing marvels.
One of the wonders of the human brain is telepathy. Telepathy defies the concepts of time and space and makes human contact a possibility without the need for verbal confrontation.
If you share such a connection with someone, you are sure to come across these signs.

elepathic connection between lovers is real. It is a two-sided communication that consists of sending and receiving messages.
It requires high energy to break the psychic shield of a person to penetrate their thoughts. Two lovers in a relationship often nurture the mind and soul enough to provide the necessary power to communicate telepathically.

Discussion
Only one thing is certain: that to claim any part of this fragment is used figuratively (or otherwise) is to imply that you have a telepathic connection with Olesya :^)
невидимая нить - in this context has different (not only positive) connotation. They have something secret in common (even love). Telepathic connection means only the mental and love connection between them (scientifically). Besides, it is translated into Russian as
Хотя telepathic connection is correct literally, but in terms of sense, it does not hold water in this specific context.
It is worthy to say that "медовый месяц" is used figuratively here. If they are really having "медовый месяц" and the speaker knew that, he would not say о медовый месяц закончен. By this he meant closer to "его миссия закончена" or his secret loving relation (negative) came to an end.
I am sure.
