: Okay, but for me more expensive still makes more sense here than prohibitive. Prohibitive necessarily implies people were prohibited from doing it, but the passage goes on to say it artificially increased prices and EVEN discouraged SOME producers...

sorry, but "prohibitive" doesn't mean that at all! It simply means that prices are so expensive that nobody can afford them, and is a neater and more effective way of saying "more expensive", which in any case doesn't really translate antieconómicas
