You can also invoke the Winalign program directly from the Studio 2009 home menu. Choose "align translated documents" at the top of the Home page

How to create a new TM from sdlxliff files? Jan 21, 2011

I have several ready translated sdlxliff files and would like to generate a new TM from them. How can I do this in the easiest and quickest way?

Hi Peter,

The fastest way, if these are all from seperate projects is to create a new Translation Memory in Studio and then import all the SDLXLIFF files into it. Once your memory is created (I assume you know how to do this) you right click on it like this;


Then add all your files in the next window that appears and import them all in one go.

Is there any way to merge several SDLXLIFF files in one single file (by creating a new one, or merging all in the first)?

I finally got it!

But joy of finally being able to use my past work as asset in Trados is just so overwhelming! I'm just gonna have a drink to cerebrate it!

If you create a Project you can add the SDLXLIFF files to the Project and merge them into a single SDLXLIFF as you do it. However, if you were doing this to use in another tool then the merged SDLXLIFF might be useless in that scenario; it's actually something I haven't tried to test yet.

What is the purpose of this exercise?

It's quite common that a source file is split among several translators who will send back their own portion. However, the client needs one single file, so here one must work on the Save Target As.. file to produce this single file (by opening each of them in Word and using Copy&Paste).

It would be nice to merge all sdlxliff into one sdlxliff as this would also simplify the previously discussed "Import sdlxliff into TM" task.

Hi Péter,

Ok, I see where you are coming from now. There is another way to tackle this problem using a new OpenExchange Tool called SDLXLIFF Split/Merge which you can get free here on the OpenExchange website;

If you create your SDLXLIFF using the full file and don't split it then you can use this application to slpit the SDLXLIFF afterwards, and then merge them back together again once the different parts are translated. This will all happen inside the Project so you only need to update your TM at the end. No seperate importing of files required.

Maybe this would be useful?
