As you will have noticed by now I´m quite a newbie with CAT tools in general and with trados en particular, so my question is: how to build up your own translation memories?
Thank you

Alignment
Oct 3, 2015
When I started, I aligned my old translated file pairs. I used Across then. Once I had a medium sized TM, I built upon it. Alignment is easily done in Across. If you use Trados it could be a little more tricky but surely you can google the solution quite easily.

In addition to TMs, I find the WordFinder program very useful. It's my favourite tool. Searching through standard dictionaries and your own glossaries and pasting in is easy. It's possible to build up your own subject or customer-specific glossaries, with the option of making notes about preferred translations for different clients.
