Report on missing children
An overview of practices, legislation and recommendations regarding the prevention of cases of missing children and the recovery of children who have gone missing or been abducted. It has input from enforcement and government agencies, NGOs and international organizations. Lucía Colombino and I translated the English version into Spanish. Another Southwards/Southtranslations team member, Cristina Canoura, produced the version in Portuguese together with Gabriela Rodríguez Bissio. Thus, our team Southwards/Southtranslations was able to provide the client with a multilingual solution.

Translation - English The main weakness entrepreneurial activities face is related to an extremely cumbersome State, which is translated into excessively high taxes and expensive state monopoly services, in relation to what an entrepreneur might expect to receive in return. The cumbersome nature of the State also has a negative effect linked to its excessively regulatory role in activities which should not necessarily require the State’s intervention. In the second place, an obstacle is perceived in the absence of instruments to aid in capitalizing and financing new undertakings. Lastly, a lack of professionalism is also perceived in tasks leading towards the development of a company, at both higher and middle management levels.
Translation - English A current source of philosophical concern is the pathology related to a ‘lack of connection’. A dogma which propounds the predominance of individual benefit is gaining ground; relationships with others are based on and absorbed by strategies of self-interest. Are interwoven visions of the world incommensurable? Or, to the contrary, is it possible to speak of the good news that the whole of humanity shares a common language and a common ontology? It may be that the error appears when the incommensurability of visions disconnects us from the question’s validity, or when the yearning for validity is transformed into a utopia of rational transparency which devours all differences. These thoughts postulate the need to assume the tension between identity and difference from an approach in which truth and the finite, truth and time—subjects which have been the object of philosophical meditation for millennia; now incorporate the more recent field of communication.
Translation - English o A case is the description of a real situation, similar to that faced by a manager in his or her daily business. It acts as a springboard for the discussion of relevant subjects related to company management.
o Cases present situations at the moment when decisions must be taken, when the problem is not yet clearly defined and the information available is limited; such as occurs in real-life situations.
o The analysis of cases is complemented by assigned readings and lectures, in order to clarify models and integrate concepts. In addition, informal interaction with the lecturers makes it possible to extend the learning process beyond the general discussion sessions and approach subjects of particular interest to each participant.

Experience
Years of experience: 29. Registered at ProZ.com: May 2007.
After passing the UCLES Diploma in English Studies (Literature) with a First and taking a Teacher Training Course, I worked as a teacher, first-briefly-at a secondary school and then at a Secretarial/Business School, where I taught courses in English Language, Business English, Literature and Word Processing. Later, I left teaching to work in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Montevideo.
I have always been interested in the mechanics of translation and began freelancing twelve years ago. Passing the Chartered Institute of Linguists' Diploma in Translation (with a Distinction in Literature) contributed to my decision to become a full-time translator.
Besides Language, Literature and Education, my interests, which have led to extensive reading, include arts and crafts, gender issues, history, the environment and flying (I used to be a light aircraft pilot).
Particularly in areas such as Business, Economics, Finance, Human Resources and Marketing, I work together with my husband, who was involved in international business for many years and has a master's degree from Edinburgh University.
Together we have translated material such as art catalogues, documents for international organizations, papers on various subjects submitted for funding, manuals, articles and essays for academic journals and other publications, course descriptions, correspondence and PowerPoint presentations.
Since some scammers are impersonating translators, please make sure that messages sent in my name were actually sent by me.
One way to do this is to request a reply from my paid domain; another is to communicate through the contact page in my website www.southtranslations.com.
