Exclude highlighted passages in word from translation in Studio 2011

It frequently occurs that I receive a Word text for translation, in which passages (scattered) are highlighted for no-translation.
Do these passages have to be removed in Word before opening the file in Studio 2011 for translation - and in that case, what is the easiest way to hide the text?
OR Do I define the passages (yellow highlight) in the settings menu in Studio once the file has been opened... In this case, how do I identify this.

I am sure that I have done this before, but cannot remember, nor find a clear reference.
Any help out there, please? (I know there is aways the way of marking & deletion in Word and then merge the translated file back into the source file, manually).
hide all such content in the Word document. All such hidden content will not appear in the edit interface. Once I finish the translation, I open the file, Ctrl-A and unhide.
In the Word 2007 document : Home>Font and click "Hidden" which will hide all the selected text.

When I get documents with highlighted passages, they are highlighted in Studio as well, so I can easily see which passages I should translate and which not. Is that not the same for you?
