What on earth is "though genetics" supposed to mean in the context of the question???? | | | | Peter Simon Netherlands Local time: 22:38 English to Hungarian + ...
A nice aside but it doesn't mean much more than that... not even funny, should I say, even though I like Irish music - but seriously, in this context???

Probably meant - good genes. LOL
Does anybody ever actually check these polls before publishing?
Once again, we have to guess what the poll setter actually wanted to ask. Are they asking about:
1. human longevity, as stated?
Or, more likely,
2. human lifespan?
My best guess is that they're asking about lifespan, or life expectancy, which is mostly related to environmental conditions, health care, life style, and so on.
If I'm wrong, and they really do mean "longevity", then it almost certainly depends mostly on genetics (but ... See more Once again, we have to guess what the poll setter actually wanted to ask. Are they asking about:

I guess some of the above can significantly impact human longevity. Regarding my lifespan and if good genes are to blame, both my grandfathers and grandmothers died after 80, my father died at 91 and my mother was 105 when she died… | | | | | Mediterranean diet | Aug 15, 2025 |

21.5% said healthy lifestyle habits, but only 2.3% said a clean safe environment.
Good luck keeping up your healthy habits when you are breathing air full of wildfire smoke or you are made homeless by flooding.
Climate change and related environmental crises are going to be a major factor in human lifespans in the not-too-distant future (and already are in many parts of the world). | | | | Oscar Núñez Alfaro Costa Rica Local time: 14:38 Member (Oct 2026) English to Spanish + ... | I would say that all the options mentioned are key factors for longevity. | Aug 15, 2025 |
I live in Costa Rica, very close to Nicoya where people could live more than 100 years. This region is considered blue zone because of its long-lived population. This people mention that they worked their whole life as housekeepers or farmers with a minimum salary enough to have a house and raise their children.

They were living in the countryside and their diet was corn-based meals, fruits, and vegetables. They always have access to healthcare systems because it is very affordable in the country. Despite their humble way of living and all the difficulties they had in their lives, they are very happy, cared by their family, friends and neighbors.
We are also traditional catholic homes, so we usually attend to masses and socialize with people from the community. We have many traditional town festivities where people gather to help the Church by decorating the mass, collecting donations or giving a hand to the community kitchen cooking meals for selling to visitors and neighbors. In conclusion, diet, positiveness (hope), act of serving, work, and social life are the key factors to have a great longevity.

One has to be happy and accept all the trials and tribulations of life to get what one wants. It's a mixture of all the above plus a million more things.

I made a prediction many years ago that the ultimate destiny of humanity is to serve as input/output devices for a superintelligent internet.
I'd say we've already moved some way in the direction of that future. | | | | IrinaN (X) United States Local time: 15:38 English to Russian + ... | Who knows... | Aug 17, 2025 |
- Mr. Smith, doesn't your doctor insist you quit smoking?!
- Oh, yes, he did for 25 years.
- What about now?
- The doctor died. | | | | Tom in London United Kingdom Local time: 21:38 Italian to English

My friend Lorna Sage was so badly addicted to cigarettes that even when she was dying of emphysema, she kept on smoking. The end was not pretty,
