I am using Studio, Word 2007 and Windows 7 and the document is in Word 97-2003 format. I have a short Word document with text in tables. When I go to create my project, Studio tells me it cannot convert the file because there are tracked changes that have not been accepted or rejected. When I check the file, there are no tracked changes to accept or reject. I tried saving the file as a Word 2007 file, but I get the same issue. Has anyone had this issue yet? ** I found a workaround in a prior posting - setting Studio to process files with unaccepted track changes, but it would seem to me that this could be dangerous, so I'll turn it off after this project. I would at least like to know why this happens.

Dear Daniel,
This has happened several times to me, I just had to disable track changes. No matter you have tracked changes or not but what matters most is that you should disable track changes.
Hope this helps.

That is the problem, unfortunately! I didn't have track changes on. Studio and even 2007 Suite both gave me error messages saying that they couldn't convert the file because there were tracked changes that were neither accpeted nor rejected. I turned on track changes to see if I could accept them or reject them, but when I tried that, Word told me that there were no tracked changes to accept or reject! I usually check for tracked changes when I start out, in case I have to go back to the client or agency for resolution.
In the end, I checked the box in options in Studio that says to process files with tracked changes.
I'm just not sure why this is happening, although I read in one of the forums that it might be a bug in Word 2003 - when changes are accepted there's some kind of problem removing the remnants or something like that. ▲ Collapse | | | Abrigela Local time: 19:42 Hungarian to English + ... Thank you for your link. It confirms what I read about a bug in the Word 97-2003 program! | | | You could also try changing settings on the filetype | Jun 26, 2010 |
Hi Daniel,
If making sure tracked changes are not on is unimportant to you there is also a setting on the filetype
Tools - Options - File Types - Microsoft Word - Other Settings
Try checking Process documents with non accepted or rejected changes, this may allow you to process the document even with tracked changes.
Regards... See more Hi Daniel,

Hi Daniel,
Try to save the file in a .rtf format - I have had the same problem and this solved the issue.
Kind regards,

I tried to save as an RTF and then back again to DOC but it did not work! Thank you for the suggestion. I know sometimes that helps other issues. | | | | Changing the setting of the file type does not seem to work | Jun 26, 2014 |
I am using TRADOS STUDIO 2014 SP1 and I tried to translate a document with track changes on, because it is often the case that my clients request me to do so.
I changed the file type settings for Microsoft Word 2002-2003, however from the "Common" field (I did not seem to find the "Other settings" command), ticked "Process documents with non accepted or rejected changes", but still Studio refuses to open the file with the track changes on.

As for Microsoft Word 2007-2013 fiile type, I chose "Display pending changes" from the "Track changes extraction mode" drop-down menu, having also activated "Skip advanced font formatting". Still no luck.
Is there anything else I could do? ▲ Collapse | | |

I would say the last one is a last resort because Studio 2014 can definitely handle this if you make the appropriate changes to the filetype settings before preparing the file for translation.

I followed again all the instructions, the same error message appears, in brief STUDIO won't open the file (through "translate single document") because it has track changes on. Of course, when I deactivated track changes in MS, the file was opened but this is no use because I would like to open the document and see the changes in the same way they were reflected in Word.
Do you think I could send you a print screen with my settings and reflect on this a little bit more?
Regards
Nikoletta
Hi again,
I finally did it. I converted my doc to docx and everything worked. No need to bother anymore. Many thanks for your help and links.

This has happened to me with docx and doc files, and in my case the solution has always been to upversion doc to docx and even, surprisingly, downversion docx to doc. Go figure.
