I would like to invite ALL translators of ANY language pairs to an informal meeting in Brighton.
There is a very nice, cheap and unpretentious curry place in Preston Street in Brighton (very central, near the sea).
The place is called Planet India and serves delicious vegetarian curries to the rhythms of reggae.
What is more, it also offers Polish beers Zywiec and Okocim so I encourage all Polish translators and interpreters to join in for this 'home from home' experience ;)
I think it would be a good day out in Brighton and it is only 50 minutes by train from London - so come down to the beach! Please feel free to make other suggestions!
What a brilliant combination of food, drink, sounds and company! Any chance of changing the date till following week? I live in Madrid but shall be in Brighton from May 11th to 16th.
Hi All. Great, a POWWOW in my home city! I'd love to come. My only problem: I can't eat the food. Anyone for Thai? There's a great place, The King And I, by the seafront, 15 minutes max. on foot from the station.
Thanks for your message, Alicja. My concern is not that it is inconvenient for me but that the choice of date is likely to exclude a large number of ITI members, many of whom live in the Brighton area, because of the major ITI event.
Hi Alicja, what a great idea! Unfortunately I am away in the New Forest however. Hopefully there will be another Brighton powwow soon - would love to meet more translators in the area.....
I have an appointment in the morning but I will try to make it there in time for lunch, can't eat the food either but we may be able to sort out something else (like thai...)
Afraid I'm not going to be able to make it, as friends down for the weekend. Hope to see some of you at the London pow-wows over the next few weeks instead - hope you all have a great time!
Hi! Is it ok to join you so late? I just realised that Brighton is just around the corner for me... and it could be my first powwow! Besides, the beach, the curry and the reggae make the offer quite appealing ;)

Meeting time? 6:30 for 7?
Apr 30, 2006
Hi all I thought it wise to ask start time for meet up. I have checked with the restaurant which opens from 6 to 10pm only - 26 covers max. Not widely advertised this place. Alicja must have found a real treat here - I am looking forward to trying this out. Booking required by Wednesday if there is to be a lot of us. 01273 275717 Planet India. Dir... See more

Meeting time
Apr 30, 2006
I thought we could meet at 5pm at the entrance to the Palace Pier. We could go for a drink in the pub first and then move on to the restaurant around 6.30 -7pm.

Hi All, I very much look forward to meeting you all. I'd like to post another message regarding the restaurant, though. I have said this before but have never received any feedback: I have very specific dietary needs and would prefer to go, for example, to a Thai, Italian, English etc. restaurant because there are more (and safer) menu options for people like me. Otherwise I might not be able to join you for the meal - or, worse, sit next to you with nothing to eat. Is there any chance you may c... See more
Hi All, I very much look forward to meeting you all. I'd like to post another message regarding the restaurant, though. Otherwise I might not be able to join you for the meal - or, worse, sit next to you with nothing to eat. Is there any chance you may consider going to a different place? I have suggested this before: About 3 minutes on foot from the Pier, there is an extremely reasonable Thai restaurant ("The Kind and I") which serves the most delicious food. The only snag is: The layout of the rooms is very long and narrow, so there wouldn't be much of a chance to chat to as many people as possible. But I'm sure we could find other options - if people were willing. And that's what I'm writing to find out. Please let me know what you think. Best wishes, Gabriele. ▲ Collapse

King and I sounds very good - I will make enquiries today about booking a table. If anyone objects to Thai, we can always go to a very nice Italian place in the lanes - Zizzi.
My last request to those who have not yet done so, is to confirm if you are coming and if you are bringing anyone else with you. Please do it by 3pm Wednesday so that I can make the booking! Thanks! On Wednesday evening I am hoping to send out the final arrangements and route for the evening.

Please, everyone, say whether Thai is ok for you. There are other options, of course, but obviously, Alicja needs to make the booking.
It will be great to see you all!

Checked out King and I
May 3, 2006
King and I looks very good. I made a provisional booking for 7pm. Is everyone ok to meet at 5.30 in front of the pier entrance? We can go to one of the pubs in Middle Street first for an ice-breaker (just one lane down from the restaurant which is in Ship Street). I am bringing my husband and a non-proz translator friend of mine + partner.

I thought I'd be in London around this time and would be able to come, but it turned out otherwise It's a bit too far to come all the way from Birmingham without a car, a great shame... I hope you all have a great time!

Hear, hear! I fully agree with Jessica. It was so nice meeting you all, and many thanks again to Alicja. I am glad that everyone enjoyed the food, too. If I can (as a non-member), I will make good on our light-hearted promise and organise the next Powwow in Brighton but I think it would make sense to let a few months pass before doing so. And then, of course, there is also Edinburgh. But please do stay in touch in the meantime!
